Originally, finding this dog tied to our bench made me angry. I wanted to ask the person who left her, "why?" Why is it now our responsibility to take care of this dog? What gives you the right to just abandon your responsibility? But after a few curse words and and little contemplation, I decided this person did what they thought they was right. I should take it as a compliment the owner of this dog felt like she would be best taken care of in the custody of Leesburg Animal Hospital. Because that is what we do here...we save lives. We will make sure Jazzie finds a loving home. In this home we will make certain she has a warm bed, a bowl full of kibble, and loving hands to touch her and comfort her.
When Laurel pulled up into the parking lot this morning, she was greeted at the front door by a very unexpected guest...a medium sized mixed breed dog attached to one of the benches on our patio, which is not bolted to the concrete. She looked as though she was on her way to the road, with the bench in tow. On our front door was a note stating her name was Jazz and the owner could no longer take care of her. She was up to date on her Rabies vaccine and was house trained. Turns out Jazz is pretty well potty trained. She has excellen manners and is quite a polite little dog. She sat up at the front desk with Laurel all day and never made a sound. Dogs and cats came through and she never made any attempt at aggression towards them. Clients and their children reached around the desk and gave her pats, which she enjoyed. She was a little apprehensive towards tall men coming in, but never offered to bite at them. She fit right in with us. Immediately she became a Phillip Phillips fan and sported her new t-shirt.
