Flea season is no longer coming to south Georgia...folks, it is already here! I can not stress how important it is to get your pet, dog or cat, on a monthly flea prevention. Already Dr. Shannon and I are seeing more than we would like of a condition we call FAD, which is an anacronym for flea allergy dermatitis. It is very frustrating to us because this condition can be helped, if not cured, by simply using a monthly flea prevention. Flea preventions are available in two different forms, topical or oral, and can be made to fit your pet's lifestyle. Topical flea preventions are for animals who are difficult to get to take a pill. It is necessary to be careful of what you bathe the pet in after a topical is administered as strong sopas can wash off the product. The other option in flea prevention is a flavored pill. When giving the pill, pretty much any pet safe shampoo can be used when bathing. However, if the pet in turn vomits or spits out the pill, it will not work on the fleas. For questions on chosing the right flea prevention, feel free to come in and talk to any or our assistants or doctors and we will help you find the right flea prevention for you and your pet. Don't let your pet spend the summer scratching and in misery when it can be so easily relieved. Also, visit our website, www.leesburgah.net where you will find many links to websites on the products we offer.
