I can list many reasons as to why we, Leesburg Animal Hospital, should not take in stray animals. Here are my top three.
1. They carry diseases. By allowing an unvaccinated animal to enter our boarding facility, it makes our patients more susceptible to illnesses.
2. They take up space. This might sound selfish, but consider this...when you call to make a boarding appointment and can not get in because we are booked up, you might want to consider that four stray kittens are taking up your space.
3. I have bills to pay. Those 4 kittens that booted you, a paying client, out of a boarding spot have cost me money. I went to school and in debt to make money, not to run a non-profit organization.
But the truth is, the kittens will be taken care of. I do not have the heart to turn them away. I have been blessed with a thriving practice and the knowledge to know what to do for them, so I will. However, it does not go without saying it is very frustrating to be cleaning up someone else's mess. This would be a non-issue if animal owners would be responsible animal owners. Spaying and neutering is at the top of the list of duties of animal ownership. If you choose to not have your pet spayed or neutered and they reproduce, take responsibilty for them. Don't pass the buck. You have done nothing to help the situation when you put the problem on someone else...remember...karma's a B**CH!
