I have had a magnet for several years with a picture of an overweight dog. Above his head is a quotation that says "the best thing about being a dog is when you're fat, it's someone else's fault. So true! So true!! Let's think about it. Has your dog ever ordered a super size french fry at the drive through? Does he walk to the refrigerator and pop a top off the beer bottle? Does he snack on chips and coke in the middle of the afternoon? No he does not! Will he eat these things if given the opportunity? Oh hell yeah! Why? For the same reason you do...they taste good! The difference is, he does not have to control his cravings. You control them for him. You are the one who gave him the hamburger, the donut, the cream corn. Because of this epiphany, I have decided I want to come back in my next life as a dog. I want to eat what I want; be fat and not be laughed at, and never feel guitly about calorie content. Then, when I become diabetic, have arthritis and require multiple medications twice a day, it won't even be my responsibility or my money! What a life! I can't wait!
So think about it...if your pet, be it dog or cat, is over weight it is time to make some changes. If I can't guilt you into it by telling you it is your fault your pet is ill and miserable, then maybe I can motivate your pocketbook and time management. Think about how hard it is to remember to give your pet his insulin or arthritis medication twice a day. Also, think about how much that costs. For a large dog arthritis medication can cost $2.50 a day. Joint supplements are roughly $1.00-$1.50/day. Insulin, depending on the type and dosage coupled with the size of the animal can cost anywhere from $30-100/day. All of this can be elimanated or at least greatly reduced with the loss of weight.
Bottom line..shed pounds; save money; save time.
