Folks, fleas are here! I hesitate to say it is flea season because here in SOWEGA (South West Georgia for those of my non-local friends who might read this blog) flea season is year round. The temperature does not drop low enough here to kill the immature stages of the flea, so we see them twelve months out of the year. Fleas are prehistoric creatures; they roamed the earth with the dinosaurs and they are here to stay! They are prolific creatures; for every little flea you see, you can expect 300 more. That is how many eggs a flea lays. When the temperature is hot and the humidity is high, those eggs hatch and the rest of the flea life cycle will continue. The truth is, the flea has got the good life. Their goal in life is to eat and mate. Seriously, who wouldn't want to be a flea?
If you think your pet does not have fleas, think again. Or better yet, bring him into our office and Dr. Shannon or I will find a flea on him! We are professional flea finders! We have so many great products available on our shelf to prevent fleas and give your pet relief. Since it is so-called "flea season," many of the manufacturers of these products are offering specials and rebates. Give us a call so we can help you get this problem under control. Although I do enjoy the monetary value of the flea, I do not like to see an animal in distress over an unnecessary problem.
Don't be in denial. Saying your dog does not have fleas is like saying your kid doesn't pick his boogers or your husband doesn't scratch his privates. It's inevitable.
